The Mayo Clinic reports that, in addition to stress reduction and relaxation, meditation helps conditions such as allergies, anxiety, arthritis, asthma, cancer, chronic pain, depression, high blood pressure and heart disease.

Don't confuse the word helps with cures. Still, meditation can really enhance the quality of living for someone suffering from these debilitating conditions.

For your meditation sessions to be more effective, you should try out a variety of techniques. The Meditation Society of America offers a list of 108 meditation techniques that can be found here. At this point, only some of the techniques are hyperlinked to instructions on how to perform them, but the Meditation Society is working to provide instructions on each of the 108 techniques.
